About

First, thanks for stopping by my writing blog.

I am an aspiring author, as you might be also since you are here.  This blog is the result of the never ending quest to learn more about the art and craft of writing.  Once in awhile it will be a rant, but most of the time I hope the posts here will be useful to you on your journey in becoming a published author.

I am currently working on a nonfiction book titled There’s Something Deep Inside, but I hope to expand into fiction as well; maybe even a children’s book is in me too.

If you want to email me regarding any of the information here, or report a broken link, please email me at baddogmooney@gmail.com .

Chris Mooney

  1. Hi Chris,
I am surfing the internet because I am investigating publishers and publishing in general. My husband and I self-published a book this past May and for my second book I’d like to try to find a publisher. Not so easily done apparently.

  2. HI Chris
I was just browsing around and i came around this page .I am very interestind in writing ,i have the stories but to write them down is kind of difficult.

    • No doubt Delly. Ideas are a dime a dozen. The hard part is writing it out. Good luck to you!

  3. Calvary greetings to you Chris Mooney in the beloved name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

    Ciao! Pace!

Came across your website today; please would it be possible to include my ‘Unique Writing Publications’ website in your Christian list of publishers.

  5. My name is Melinda Priebe. Father God has restored my artistic and writing talent after a traumatic head injury took both of them away. I am currently writing two books. One is a children’s book which I am also illustrating. My other book is geared towards young adult and adult readers.
It took me 10 years to relearn how to read something other then books geared for young children. My manuscript geared for adults is nearly finished, but I need help getting a few things to flow correctly. This is not writer’s block. I know what is taking place, but the head trauma has placed a few huge pot holes in my writer’s path. It is my prayer that a willing experienced Christian writer, editor or company would be willing to help me fill in the pot holes so I can continue to write what God has given me.
    Sincerely:
    Melinda

  6. Your link to Destiny Image was broken.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Onward!

  7. Hi Chris,

    Thank you for this site.

  8. Hi, this is a wonderful idea! I am a first-time-writer with a ready non-fiction script and I am looking for a traditional publisher who does not charge the author a fee but takes care of everything, including marketing of the book, etc. I am going to visit the sites you have kindly made available above, but would also appreciate any assistance or a pointer in the right direction. I have read all about self-publishing, publish-on-demand, etc, but I prefer the traditional approach. Thank you and God bless you.

  9. wonderful site. thanks! It looks like Abingdon is now taking unsolicited writers for non-fiction. it was a little confusing, but that was my understanding from their website.

  10. sorry, found another. Barbour says no unsolicited for fiction…but doesn’t mention non-fiction. I guess that means they are still accepting unsolicited for nf?

    • Thanks Laurie! I will look into it today and make any necessary adjustments.

      • Thanks Laurie, I updated the page to reflect the changes for Abingdon and Barbour.

  11. Hi Chris,

Thanks much for this treasure trove of resources. Best wishes to you.

  12. Hi! I am not an aspiring writer, but I am interested in doing proof reading at home. Can you offer any info for me? Thanks!

    • A good place to start: http://www.freelancer.com/jobs/Proofreading/ Also, I am going to add a page to the blog soon for freelance editors and proofers. It will be a small monthly subscription fee to be listed. Is that something you would be interested in?

  13. Hi Chris,
I am so thankfull to you for this blog. It is full of information. I am working hard on a book. It is a book on ‘belief’. I really need your advise to get this book published. I am getting calls from many publishers, but do not know any of them really. I am fully aware of your time constraints with your own writing and blogging. Would you be able to help me? I dont want my manuscript to go into the hands of an nonbeliever.

    • Bovas, thanks for taking the time to ask. I am not sure what your question is. Are you trying to find out which publishers are Christian? All that are on my List page are.

If you aren’t sure if some are legit, do some searching on Google for any reviews. Maybe inquire if you can get the names of some published authors so you can check them out as well.

I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I’ll see if I can offer a better answer.

  14. Dear C.R. Mooney,
I am the new manager of Writer’s Edge Service, and I would like to connect with you for our resource page.. Please email me.
    Thanks,

  15. Nice blog. We need all the help we can get :o)

  16. Hi there. I am nearing completion of My Memoirs and so far have written 57,000 words. As a (now) Christian who suffered severe abuse and neglect as a child I decided it was time to put it all on paper – an emotional journey for me! The thrust of my book is to offer a message of real hope to others out there who might have suffered in the same way. It is a message of love triumphing over evil. I am utterly confused by the publishing options. I don’t know whether to approach Christian publishers only, or to try and get into the secular market (or both). I don’t hold anything back in my book regarding the abuse etc., I tell it like it was, but through the eyes of a child initially (in other words, the first part is the ‘child’ writing). Gradually I change the text into adult and take it from there. The child writing is quite emotive as it forces the reader to see it all from an innocent and bewildered point of view. This is a first for me. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received. I am happy to publish an excerpt from my book and run the gauntlet of feed-back! Thanks. Jennifer.

    • thanks for stopping by Jennifer. The number of publishing options today can be overwhelming. I recommend looking for titles similar to yours in content and pursue those publishers. If you go to my List of Christian Publishers, browse through the non fiction publishers and see what types of books they are currently taking on.

Many of the larger publishers use services like The Writer’s Edge (see banner at top right) to get manuscripts.

  17. I would like your comments regarding self-publishing, verses other methods please. I am a first time writer of children’s books.
    Thank you,
    Judy in NM

  18. Thanks for all the valuable information here! I just found a publisher and my book will be out in March. However, I wish I’d “met” you sooner 🙂
I didn’t end up with a Christian publisher and in hindsight, wish I had. However, God is working things out His way. I’m so grateful that He is faithful and trustworthy.

    • Hi Abby, Sorry I did not reply to this sooner. I’m glad to hear that you find my site to be a valuable resource. I am looking for guest post from authors regarding getting published. Is it OK for me to email you more information? I have your email from your comment, so just a confirmation would do.

  19. What about Tate Publishing?

  21. Hi,

I recently received a pretty reasonable offer from New Harbor Press, a division of CrossLink Publishing, a hybrid between traditional publishing and self-publishing, to a very reasonable price with 10% discount. What can you tell me about these publishers?

    Thank you

  22. Got the impression from Cortland Jones that you would consider work from most genres to be promoted on this site. Also, I have a blog (suggestions for aspiring authors) suitable for a “guest blog” if you’re interested.
    FCEtier@gmail.com
    Thanks!

    • Hi FCEtier, I do take submissions for guest posts and it is something I hope to add on a weekly basis soon. I asked Cortland for a guest post since he is the first person to let me know that my blog helped him to get a book published (Tate Publishing). I am looking for content that would assist people in the craft of writing, or the process of getting published. Usually a plug for your book too, if you have one. Email me at mooney at crmooney dot com (written out to avoid spam bots).

  23. Several years ago, I re-wrote the story of “The Prodigal Son” into a play for my Sunday School class to perform. The age range was around 10 – 12. Can you suggest a Christian publisher who might be interested in it?

Thanks so much for your input.

    Elaine.

    • My work addresses to another audience, more mature. If you think that is suitable let me know.

    • You could try New Wine Press, Christian publishers based in the UK. Robert Roper is the publisher and his email address is robert@roperpenberthy.co.uk

  24. Hi Chris,
I’m simply wanting to receive your blog post to my email inbox.

    Thank You,
    Mrs. Christina M Rojas

  25. Hi Chris, I’m 13 years old and I’m writing my first novel. I have had a short story published already but that was for a competition. I was wondering if any Christian publishers accepts teenagers work. Thanks bye
P.s could you answer on here plz

  26. Hi Chris! One of our authors recently brought my attention to your helpful website. Please do add our details on your list of Christian publishers. We publish around 30-50 carefully selected titles per year and distribute to Christian bookshops across the UK. We have a special focus on True Stories and children’s fiction, but we also publish Christian teaching, poetry, daily devotionals and much more. Our website is http://www.onwardsandupwards.org and our phone number is 01483-282706.

  27. thank you from H.C. Iser

  28. Hi Chris, I am a Literary Strategist for a Christian publishing company, devoted to indie authors. We accept Queries to submit manuscripts and don’t require an agent.

Our services are unique in contrast to others as we produce books with the primary focus being marketing. Our owner has his masters in marketing and is soon to have his doctorate, which means we KNOW marketing, and more importantly marketing specific to authors.

We look for authors who are teachable and committed to the process. This means not everyone who inquires is the right client. Authors who wish to send me an email with the title, target market, genre and synopsis of their book may do so at pam@trinitypressinternational.com Please keep it short and carefully read your email before sending. it’s most unfortunate to receive an email from an aspiring author that is poorly written or worse has typos. The email is your first example of your writing…

Please use my direct email for special consideration as opposed to contact via the web site.

  29. Great blog! Enjoy it. My faith-based novel FAITH AND THE FORMULA – a thriller- has been out for awhile. It is receiving good reviews. available at http://www.clintsmithauthor.com I hope that you like it. Clint Smith

  30. hello Mooney – this site is very informative

  31. Many publishers totally discourage me, and I am speaking of Christian publishers. Some of you make it plain: “no unsolicited writers”, it is like work places telling the new graduate :”Get some experience then return”. Don’t new writers have to begin somewhere? All those who are now “famous” and “tops”, didn’t they have to begin somewhere?
    A very discouraged,aspiring one.
